Clinical Psychologist
I am a bilingual Licensed Psychologist in California, fluent in English and Cantonese, and proficient in Mandarin. I conduct psychological evaluations and psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults in the Bay Area. Additionally, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and offer limited telehealth psychotherapy to adults in New York.

I graduated from Washington University in Saint Louis, MO, with a double major in Psychology and Educational Studies. Then, I earned my Master's degree from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Psychological Services. I received training in play therapy at the Play Therapy Training Institute in Morriston, NJ. I also completed EMDR Level I and II training and received consultation hours from Dr. Karen Alter-Reid in Stamford, CT.

I have worked in multiple settings across New York and Connecticut, including community-based mental health programs, primary care centers, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs, and private practice. In addition to my clinical work, I taught various undergraduate psychology classes at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 2014, I relocated to the Bay Area to pursue my doctoral degree.

I graduated from Alliant International University in 2019 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology. I completed a research externship at the Foster Care Mental Health Program in the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Then, I completed my clinical practicum at the Oakland Psychological Services and the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente (KP) in Oakland. At KP Oakland, I completed two rotations that specialized in the assessment and treatment of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Additionally, I completed an advanced practicum at the San Francisco Neuropsychology PC, focusing on neuropsychological evaluations.

I finished my internship at the California Medical Facility, a psychiatric inpatient program within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Lastly, I completed a postdoctoral residency in both the Department of Adult Psychiatry and the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente in Pleasanton. Throughout my doctoral training, I focused heavily on psychological and neuropsychological assessments in adults and children.
I provide psychological testing and evaluations to children, adolescents, and adults in California. Some common reasons for referral include diagnostic clarifications of ADHD, ASD, specific learning disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and other trauma-based symptoms. I also conduct Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) and immigration-related evaluations.

Additionally, I offer telehealth psychotherapy to adolescents and adults in California and New York. Being a first-generation immigrant from Hong Kong, I am bicultural, fluent in Cantonese and English, and proficient in Mandarin. I understand the specific challenges of international students, non-resident employees, immigrants, and persons of color. I connect well with clients from these populations because of the shared experiences.

With over 20 years of experience working in various mental health treatment programs, my clinical expertise includes psychological trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I am also skilled in treating clients who struggle with life transitions, identity, acculturation, relationships, parenting, caregiver-related stress, and women’s issues such as infertility and postpartum depression.

In my therapy practice, I integrate traditional talk therapy with evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapy for depression and anxiety, as well as Trauma-Focused CBT and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. With children, I also use art and play therapy to help them express their feelings, process their experiences, and practice skills to reduce their distress.

Generally, my treatment approach is relational and strength-based. I strongly believe a collaborative and trusting relationship is a prerequisite for meaningful therapy. I support clients in recognizing and strengthening their internal resources, resilience, and sense of hope. As a psychologist, my goal is to help my clients become their best therapists by guiding them to strengthen their confidence and increase their capacity to manage their stressors.
